SFMC - Create and test or modify user-initiated emails prior to scheduling

This feature allows you to create and update the experiment assets before scheduling

Updated over a week ago

So, you're looking to create your emails and do a little testing or add some seed lists before you schedule? We've got a feature for that!

Before proceeding, please keep in mind that altering or removing the data extensions, queries or AMPscript Phrasee created on your behalf could result in unforeseen sending or deliverability errors. Cool?

Awesome! Let's start by navigating to the Phrasee experiment you're ready to build emails for through the AppExchange Phrasee app you added to your Salesforce account.

Give the Salesforce integration button a click to open the integration drawer.

How to create assets

  1. Select your existing user-initiated email.

  2. Click on Create emails.

Please note: You don't need to select any of the other options in the form unless you are scheduling. Any options you do select won't be saved.

After the asset creation process is complete, the following are created and/or updated:

  1. Split test email

  2. Final email

  3. Data extensions for Subject Lines/Results, Split Audience and Winner (to notify us to collect final results)

Please note: If you make changes to subject lines after your emails are created, you will need to delete the emails first and edit your subject lines in Phrasee before creating your emails again.

To delete emails, access the experiment through the Phrasee app. Open the integrations drawer like you did to create the emails initially and click on Delete emails.

During scheduling

The only validation check we run during scheduling ensures the AMPscript in the subject lines has not changed. We can't account for and are unable to provide validation for any other changes you may have made to your emails in the interim.

Errors

If any errors occur during the email creation or scheduling processes, the experiment and your original user-initiated email will be reset back to their default states.

Known issues

  1. Scheduling an experiment with emails created from a different Business Unit will throw an error and reset the user-initiated emails.

  2. Attempting to create emails using a user-initiated email with an attached data extension smaller than the audience size you entered during your experiment setup in Phrasee will throw an error. If you get that error at this time, you will have to recreate your experiment in Phrasee in order to use the integration and schedule properly.

The following error checks happen during scheduling and need to be moved as part of the email creation process. Each one will result in an error and the user-initiated emails being reset during scheduling:

  1. Using a Data Extension audience that isn't 20% bigger than the Phrasee split calculation.

  2. Salesforce Approvals workflow only: The AMPscript approvals subject line doesn't match what's in the approved content.
