How to set up a web experiment with Adobe Target

Updated over a week ago

Adobe x Phrasee integration: Overview

Using Phrasee Convert's integration with Adobe Target, you can now create optimized copy-based web activities that leverage Phrasee's Brand Language Optimization for higher conversions, AOV, and revenue.

Phrasee integrates with Adobe Target's A/B Testing Activities. The A/B Testing Activity enables you to compare two or more versions of your website content to see which version best improves your conversions during a pre-specified test period. With the Phrasee integration, the copy will be the one element of change for the A/B/n test. This allows you to optimize the messaging on your website and see what language best drives a response from your website visitors.

A one-time account configuration is required before you can set up an experiment. Check out our getting started instructions for more information.

Integration workflow

Phrasee's integration uses the below workflow to automatically push your optimized Phrasee language variants directly into your Adobe Target instance and get your results back into Phrasee for ongoing optimization.

How does an A/B Testing Activity work with Phrasee?

Within the A/B Test, you can create different Experiences (or versions) of your website for testing. When conducting a web test with Phrasee, each copy variant will be inserted into an Experience within the A/B Testing Activity. As a result, the total number of Experiences you have set up will equal the total number of Phrasee copy variants you are testing.

Using Code Offers to insert Phrasee copy variants into Experiences and automatic result retrieval

Within Adobe Target, the Offer library holds various Offer types such as HTML, Image etc. When you push your Phrasee variants into Target, the variants are published as 'Code Offers' (aka HTML Offers) and stored in the Adobe Target Offers Library.

Phrasee will automatically create Code Offers within your Offer Library for each copy variant that will be tested within your Experiences. When setting up the Experiences within your A/B Test Activity, you will replace the copy you want to test with the Code Offer containing the Phrasee copy variant.

A step-by-step guide for setting up the integration for your experiment

Follow these steps to set up your Phrasee web experiment using our integration with Adobe Target's A/B Test Activity.

Once you have approved your Phrasee Experiment Variants:

1) Log in to your Adobe Target account and create a new A/B Test Activity by selecting the '+ Create Activity' button and then 'A/B Test' from the dropdown.

2) Configure the Activity URL (web) or Mobile App to be used for the test.

3) The Experience Composer will appear. You can add as many Experiences as you have Phrasee variants here. We'll come back to the final configuration of these Experiences in a later step. For now, move on to 'Targeting.'

4) Select the audience for your Test and the Traffic Allocation Method. You can update this later in the process before Activation as required.

5) Select the schedule timing of the Activity and the primary goal for your test. Again, you can modify these before Activation if required. Just remember to match your Primary Goal back in Phrasee. Save this draft Activity, then navigate back to Phrasee.

6) In Phrasee, navigate to your Phrasee web experiment and click on the Integration button (plug icon) located in the top right-hand corner of the platform to open the Integration panel.

7) In the Integration panel, find the A/B Activity you just created in the dropdown. You can also type the name of the Activity into this field to find it quickly. Click 'Create and Send Offers,' and Phrasee will publish each variant into the Offer Library.

If you ever need to make a change, you can always return and delete the offers and republish.

8) Next, select the primary goal you configured in Adobe Target and your test's start and end dates. Click 'Save Schedule.'

Note: Saving the schedule in Phrasee will not schedule the Activity in Adobe Target. The timeframe selected here is to inform Phrasee when to start and stop collecting results for the experiment.

Once you've saved your schedule, the option to 'stop collecting data' will appear. You can use this button if you need to end the test, update the schedule or make edits to your Phrasee copy variants.

9) Return to your Adobe Target account. You'll now see the variants in your Offer Library.

Note: This process can take anywhere between 1 to 20 minutes. If you do not see the variants immediately, wait for a bit for them to be published.

10) Now, it's time to configure your Experiences within your A/B Test Activity. Add as many Experiences as the number of Phrasee variants that exist in your experiment. For example, if you have four Phrasee variants, you should create four Experiences.

For each Experience, select the content test area on the page. A popup will appear, navigate to 'Replace Content' and select 'HTML Offer.'

11) A popup will appear where you can find and select the Offers containing your Phrasee variants. Select one variant and click 'Done.'

Note: if you are replacing a link, the option to replace it with an HTML offer may not appear unless you select the larger container. It may be easier to edit the link's text and paste it into your Phrasee variant in this instance.

12) Looking good! Now, repeat steps 10 and 11 for each of your Experiences, and you'll be ready to kick off your test! As your test is live, Phrasee will pull back the results on a nightly basis into the Phrasee platform.
