Setup and schedule a broadcast experiment in a Canvas using Winning Path

Updated over a week ago

This may be a bit Braze-n, but this isn't our best practice recommendation for conducting a Phrasee test in Braze. There are considerable limitations to what is possible in terms of number of variants (maximum of 3, including human control) and reporting.

However, there could be situations where this is the right path, so let's get started.

Step 1: Set up your experiment in Phrasee to generate the 3 variants for your split test

Set up your Phrasee experiment as you normally would. Make note of the split size for later use. In the example below, the split calculator recommends sending each split to 6% of the audience)

Once you have approved your variants, you’ll be taken to the Results page.

Step 2: Create your Braze Canvas

Follow the Braze workflow to create your Canvas. When configuring the Entry Schedule, ensure that the Entry Frequency is set to once so the Braze Experiment creates a delay group we can use to deploy the winning subject line to later.

Add an Experiment Path to your canvas, add a 3rd Path then turn on Winning Path. Adjust the percentages allocated to each path to match those from the Phrasee Split Calculator. Set the Winning Path conversion metric to clicks and the Experiment Window to at least 6 hours.

Now, you'll see the Experiment paths and delay group are visible on the Canvas.

Add a Message to Path 1, and configure the content as you normally would. To add the Phrasee variants to an email step, click Edit Sending Info to paste the Phrasee variant into the Subject field.

Variants can be easily copied from your Phrasee experiment by clicking the Copy variant to clipboard button next to the variant on the Results page.

Once satisfied with the content, duplicate the step in Braze via the Settings gear icon.

Connect the new step to Path 2, click the message and add the Phrasee variant as before. Repeat this for the third path.

That's the Phrasee setup done. Now, just finalize any other settings as needed and then click Launch Canvas.

When the test is complete and a Winning Path is determined, the users assigned to the Delay Group will be directed to the chosen path and continue through the Canvas.

Unfortunately, your work is not yet done though. (At least) 72 hours after the Winning Path has been determined, return to Phrasee to upload the results.
